Year 4/5C Newsletter - Term 3, 2017

7 August 2017

Dear parents and caregivers,

Welcome to Term 3! It has been a very busy start to the term. We’ve had a visit from St John’s Ambulance Narrogin staff who taught us some first aid skills and the Fremantle Literature Centre also came to the school and read the book, Jandamarra, to us. We attended a special NAIDOC assembly at Narrogin Senior High School and participated in some activities celebrating Indigenous culture. The Year 4 students have also had PEAC testing. Early in Term 3 we began training for the Athletics Carnival which will be held on Friday 1 September.

Crunch and Sip time is offered to the students on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If you wish to, please send in either fruit or vegetables for your child to enjoy during this time.

I have changed the homework structure as per student feedback. There are compulsory tasks and then optional tasks to complete. Homework also goes over a fortnight, for example; Monday 31 July to the Friday 11 August. I have asked students to discus any concerns/questions that they have and have given them feedback on Week 1 & 2 homework.

Morning Reading

Morning reading will resume from Monday 14 August. Your children have a selected day where they read with me and also have their spelling words checked. It is important for your child to bring their reading book and diary on their assigned reading day.

If you have some spare time in the morning, it would be lovely to have you drop in to assist during morning reading!

Connect Classroom

I have created a class space in Connect, as a way of sharing information about what we are learning in room 7. I will be posting newsletters, updates and photos regularly to keep parents informed. Every time I post, you should receive an email notification with details of the post. Over time students will be encouraged to use Connect as a tool for learning. We are the first class at Narrogin Primary to have the opportunity to have a Connect community, so please give it a try and communicate (via Connect) any feedback you have. You will receive a welcome email that contains the web address and initial sign in details. If you haven’t received this by Monday 14 August please contact me.

Sarah Munns has done an amazing job in the classroom over the last three weeks whilst I have been acting Deputy Principal. I am working in the office on Monday 7 August and Tuesday 8 August, and am attending a Professional Development day in Perth on Friday 11 August. Sarah will continue in the classroom during this time. I am looking forward to being back in the classroom full time from Monday 14 August.

If you would like to discuss any matter with me, please email me, contact me through the office or see me in the morning before school begins.

Kind Regards
